“An intimate and practical guide to the art of shamanic healing and the technology of the sacred. Michael Harner is not just an anthropologist who has studied shamanism; he is an authentic white shaman.”
—Stanislav Grof, author of The Adventure of Self-Discovery
In 1980, Michael Harner blazed the trail for the worldwide revival of shamanism with his seminal classic, The Way of the Shaman. After thirty years, over 600,000 copies sold, and 13 translations, Harner presents the long-awaited sequel, Cave and Cosmos, revealing new evidence of the existence of heavens. In the book, readers will find instructions from Harner’s innovative core-shamanism techniques to ascend to heavenly realms, seek spirit teachers, and return later for additional healing and advice.
Though Harner’s teaching has been primarily oral to keep with the age-old traditions of shamanism, this book presents his public response to two fundamental questions that he believes deserve a wider response: whether there is more than one reality, and whether we need to be alone in solving the challenges of existence.
Drawing from a lifetime of personal shamanic experiences and more than 2,500 reports of Westerners’ experiences during shamanic ascension, Harner shares some of their journeys in finding the answers to these questions, using the ancient methods of shamans. As these practitioners drum “over the rainbow,” Harner highlights the striking similarities between their discoveries, indicating that the heavens and spirits they’ve encountered do indeed exist.
