The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) issued an emergency alert at 10:48 p.m. ET on Thursday night reporting “gunshots” on the university’s campus.
“Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside,” the school’s newspaper, the Tech, reports.
Massachusetts State Police told MyFoxBoston.com that a police officer was shot and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Mediaite is reporting the MIT police officer who was shot multiple times has died. Police responded earlier tonight to shots fired at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. MIT is updating students with campus-wide alerts about an “active shooter incident” near Vassar and Main Streets warning students to stay clear of Building 32 (the Stata Center) and is now confirming that injuries have been reported.
