Pentagon Seeks High-Tech Nuke Radiation Defenses

The Defense Department this week said it is looking for technologies to protect people against potentially deadly radiation near the site of a nuclear strike or other atomic disaster. DARPA is said to be looking into both pre-exposure and post-exposure to counter the short-term effects of radiation.
This is what Millie Donlon, a program manager with the DARPA Defense Sciences Office, had to say in a press release:
There are many facets to this challenge and DARPA needs input from many field but a fruitful research endeavor could eliminate at least some of [radiation's] destructive power.
The Pentagons research division has also stated that they are working on ways to combat the long-term effects of radiation such as cancer.
