Rev. Angel Armando Perez Sentenced for Sexually Abusing 12-year-old During ‘Sleepover’
A Mexican priest working in a Portland, Oregon church has been sentenced to 6-years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy during ‘sleepovers’.
Rev. Angel Armando Perez, 47, was charged last year for inappropriately touching the youngster and photographing his genitals during the sleepovers. The charges and subsequent prison term relate to one incident where the youngster fell asleep after drinking beer offered by Rev. Perez.
According to police records the youngster awoke the priest touching him and taking photos. The child fled to the safety of a neighbor’s home with Perez in his underwear in pursuit. In his defense Perez said he drank too much at a church event and doesn’t remember what happened.
The Catholic priest accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse, DUI and providing liquor to a minor. Perez’ church, St. Luke Catholic Church, is part of the Archdiocese of Portland which was the first Archdiocese to declare bankruptcy due to settlements on sexual abuses cases on more than 175 accusations.
Perez is a permanent legal resident whose residency can be revoked after serving his prison sentence and deported to Mexico. He is now required to register as a sex offender.
