(Before It's News)

By OneWorldChronicle Team

Here at the OneWorldChronicle we try our best to bring you the most up to date alternative news ad in many cases one can look at the news that we bring and say its full of doom and gloom, there is no hope, our governement doesn’t care for us, the end of the family is in sight and the Communist Manifesto is shortly to be our new bible as the main tenent of that book, the desctruction of the family unit, nears completion. But every once in a while a little glimmer of light, of hope shines in the midst of all the doom and gloom. And in this story which we are delighted to highlight, we can see that there are pockets of hope tht the family unit is far from being defeated.

Some pals of ours were out a few sundays ago and visited a BMX tack in Ballyfermot with their children and were blown away with what was happening right under their noses.

The pals all love BMX and their kids are now getting the buzz, and as dads tend to do they look back with great fondness at their own fantastic times when in their own youth the pals were throwing their “barspins” too hard, or “bunnyhopping” around the street, with style of course, “yeah right dad!!” Anyway, here they found a fully kitted out professional BMX track – right o their doorstep.

So the lads took their kids down for the afternoon, and well the craic was mighty. And let me tell ya, listening to our pals telling us all about this track we saw the fire of excitement, the buzz of life, and the magnificent bonding of dads and sons and daughters, as they gushed the fun and excitement of the days riding.

But this place has a story. This track was and is under pressure. Like all faclities these days under the kind austerity of our Fuedal overlords, it was losing money and was about to close. Thankfully though, a number of hardworking parents clubed together and aided with some fantastic volunteers have decided to try and keep this brilliant family bonding and strengthening sporting complex open, for the local community and the children, and of course the dads ! The group got together after BMX Pursuits on Upper Kennelsfort Road closed down late last year after trading difficulties. This left a 20,000 sq foot indoor facility with a 550ft track which offered great opportunities for cycling enthusiasts to train, race and to have fun – redundant. Another casualty of a defunct and corrupt Government hell bent on destroying communities and not helping strengthen them.  This would be another devastating blow for the BMX community in and around the local area as well as the wider Dublin area. One of the members of the committee Mr Keith Steacy, a not for profit committee, and BMX enthusiast, couldn’t see this wonderful facility just lapse and rot without a fight. Mr Steacy commented that “”we knew that the place was in danger of closing, which would be devastating so we contacted the landlord of the building, we got the keys and an army of people helped out to carry out some work at the facility”.

The six team committee includes Keith Steacy, Paula Burns, Wayne Quinn, Anthony Connor, Declan Foran and Derek Waller. The group acknowledge that they received considerable help from Joe Moran, of Moran Enterprises who helped out with the refurbishment of the track, and also backing for the venture from BMX Ireland and Cycle Ireland and also financial support from CCM Racing and Harry’s Bikers.

Mr Steacy further added ‘’ The plan is to promote the sport in the area, talk to kids and help them stay off the street.’’ Mr Steacy believes the facility is vital for the progression of the sport in Ireland especially with BMX now an official Olympic Sport since 2008.

The group held an open day recently to promote the facility.‘’ Adults and kids can compete in a safe and fun environment safe from the rain. We had an open weekend recently which drew up 250 people and we plan to get a development going’’

So the group now intends to keep the facility going as a viable enterprise, offering fun, excitement and a chance for family bonding in a clean safe dry environment.

The OneWorldChronicle team can only salute your efforts. It is from efforts like this that parents, friends, children and families can get something, and indeed give something. This is fun for all, a great day out, the club runs competitions and has open sessions, where anyone can have a go, (come on dad show us your skills, my mate Jay was great at his can-cans!!) Anyway its about time we had some feelgood stories and this is one of them and we hope that the guys at DCBMX go from strength to strength. For further details on BMX please log on to their all new updated website www.dcbmx.ie and if you or anyone is interested in supporting the group’s efforts to maintain the track – including weekly costs, you can contact them at [email protected]

In the meantime, please have a look at these videos and bring yourself back to the time when you had a BMX and you were “freestyling” all day and night. Them were the days eh? Ahh brings back great memories, anyway, where is that old BMX burner I used to have? I bet I can still show you a few moves and grinds Jay!! See ya all there soon and click the link below to brush up on some of the BMX terms, how many to do remember? how many can you still do?
