Jakarta: A Health Ministry official said that the ministry had placed thermal scanners at all international airports in anticipation of an outbreak of the H7N9 virus, which recently hit mainland China as well as Taiwan.
“The equipment is ready, but there is an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) for countries in Southeast Asia to not activate the scanners just yet,” said Tjandra Yoga Aditama, director
general for disease control and environmental health at the Health Ministry, on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to 2009 data, there are 27 international airports in the archipelago.
He said the scanners would be activated if the situation required the ministry to do so. He added that the ministry had also placed health officers at harbors as well as banners and posters.
