Striker Lionel Messi worked out Monday at FC Barcelona’s practice facility, but the club remained mum on whether the Argentine phenom will be a starter or a substitute for this week’s Champions League quarterfinal with Paris Saint-Germain.
To the dismay of Barça fans, it is also possible Messi will not recover from the pulled hamstring he suffered in last week’s first leg with PSG in time for Wednesday’s decisive contest here at Camp Nou.
It was Messi’s second workout since the injury, which came minutes after he scored the first goal in Barcelona’s 2-2 tie with PSG in the French capital.
The team has two additional practices scheduled before the match, including a session Tuesday afternoon that will be open to the press and public.
The final decision on Messi’s fitness for the second-leg will come after a match-day workout set for 12:00 p.m. Wednesday.
