Presidential hopeful Ramin Mehmanparast has called for massive turnout in the upcoming presidential election in a bid to further prove the ineffectiveness of anti-Iran measures by enemies.
œA massive turnout in the election [is necessary for Iranians] to decide their own fate, [and] to send a message to the countries pursuing sedition [here],” Mehmanparast said on Monday.
œThey imagine that if they ramp up the pressures less people will vote in the presidential election and they will benefit from the low turnout and incite fresh sedition in our country,” he added.
Mehmanparast, a former Foreign Ministry spokesman, noted that the enemies will imagine that their pressures on Iran have been effective in the event of a lower turnout on June 14.
œIf, God forbid, the participation of our people is not as expected they will claim that the pressures [they exerted] have been effective enough to dissuade people from supporting the Islamic establishment…. They will impose sanctions or [take] any other measures which can help them paint a negative image of our establishment,” he added.
œOur nation is a strong nation, a cohesive nation. It is intelligent and understands the sensitivity of conditions and it defends its ideals under the most difficult of circumstances,” said Mehmanparast.
More than 280 polling stations have been set up abroad for Iranian expatriates to vote in Iran™s 11th presidential election.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. The Guardian Council is mandated with vetting the hopefuls.
