Enrique Iglesias put the finishing touch on the presentation of the shows for next season by the Spanish-language Univision television network after an intense day filled with TV stars including William Levy, Ximena Navarrete and David Zepeda.
Iglesias performed during Univision’s upfront event for advertisers at the New Amsterdam Theater on New York’s Times Square.
Once again, Univision is increasing its reliance on soap operas with “La Tempestad,” starring Levy and Navarrete, and “Mentir para Vivir,” with Mayrin Villanueva and Zepeda.
Next season the network will also air “Metastasis,” based on the acclaimed AMC series “Breaking Bad.”
“Advertisers can no longer ignore the fact that the audience of the four main networks in English has fallen by 11 percent since the start of the season while at Univision it is rising,” said the network’s vice president, Cesar Conde.
He emphasized that the increase in viewers has been possible thanks to the ongoing momentum of the country’s most significant demographic group, given that “for more than half a century our focus of devoting ourselves 100 percent to the Hispanic audience has not changed.”
Univision also presented its strategic agreement with El Rey, the new youth-oriented, English-language cable channel created by well-known filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.
The agreement, about which no economic details were divulged, will come to fruition with a new channel that will be launched in December with a mixture of dramas, reality shows, animated series, movies, music and sports.
