A drop in electricity rates and fuel prices pushed Spain’s year-on-year inflation rate down by one percentage point to 1.4 percent in April, the lowest level since March 2010, the National Statistics Institute, or INE, said Tuesday.
The sectors that exerted the most downward pressure on the consumer price index were housing, which posted a decline of nearly four perecentage points, thanks to the drop in electricity rates, and transportation, which fell nearly 0.70 percent on an annualized basis due to a drop in fuel and lubricant prices.
The recreation and culture sector fell nearly two percentage points to 0.40 percent, thanks to a drop in the prices of group travel and recreation and sports services, the INE said.
