In an agreement with Sony TV, Univision will produce an adaptation of the popular cable series ‘Breaking Bad’. The Spanish-language version will be called ‘Metastasis’ and will be geared for U.S. and Latin American Spanish-speaking audiences.
Sony Pictures Television will serve as co-producer of the Univision original series that is adapted from the AMC cable series. In July ‘Breaking Bad’ will launch its fifth and final season on AMC.
According to the series website:
Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family’s financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in this world.
The Univision network announced it is launching 21 new TV series along with returning shows for its next season. The network is doing two Spanish-language adaptations of popular English-language shows that include ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Gossip Girl’.
