Velayati to form moderate administration

Iran presidential hopeful Ali Akbar Velayati says he will form a moderate administration with the participation of experts and scholars if he wins the June 14 vote.

Laying out his plan for a œcomplementary administration” in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on Tuesday, the former foreign minister stated that he has already drawn up the sketches for his administration, which will have five major aspects.

Currently a top advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Velayati also noted that he will include experts, thinkers, and moderate figures in his administration.

Velayati belongs to the Principlist Coalition of Three which also includes Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel.

The coalition will pick one of its members with the highest approval rating as its nominee.

A total of 686 individuals signed up for the presidential race during the registration period, which began on March 7 at Iran™s Interior Ministry and ended on March 11.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

The Guardian Council, a 12-member body consisting of six jurists and six theologians, is tasked with vetting hopefuls for their qualifications and confirming the election results.

Under Iran™s election law, the Guardian Council is required to announce the list of vetted candidates within five days after the end of registration. This period can be extended another five days.
