‘Subsidy plan ignored rights in practice’
Presidential candidate Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf says some of the rights of the Iranian people have been ignored in the implementation of Iran™s subsidy reform plan.
In a televised speech on Tuesday, Qalibaf said one of the commendable works of the Ahmadinejad administration was the implementation of the plan after several years, but he criticized the way it was implemented.
œThe subsidy reform plan was implemented to liberalize prices, but the people have rights that were disregarded in the implementation process,” Qalibaf said.
œUnder the plan, cash subsidies have been paid, but the production sector, which supports job creation, has been disregarded, bringing about inflation and decreasing purchasing power,” the principlist candidate stated.
The Mayor of Tehran said people can no longer afford the commodities they could purchase prior to the implementation of the plan.
Qalibaf said if elected president, he will implement the plan fully, allocate funds to producers and farmers, and ensure that domestic products meet quality standards. He also promised to facilitate the production of quality goods and increase purchasing power.
In Iran™s June 14 presidential election, Qalibaf will be competing against Hassan Rohani, who is the director of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, MP Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, former First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
Iranians will cast their ballots at over 66,000 polling stations across the country in the nation™s 11th presidential election. Expatriates will also be able to vote at 285 polling stations that will be set up in foreign countries.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
