It’s Your Backyard Ventura County

PorthuenemeFrom Oxnard Chamber of Commerce The Port of Hueneme marine terminals handle automobiles, containerized cargo (primarily fruit imported by Chiquita and Del Monte), break bulk fruit, and general cargo such as project cargo, military cargo and liquid fertilizer. Inaddition, the Port is home to Oxnard Unloading handling squid and fish for Monterey, SoCal and Suncoast fish companies. The Port is an important offshore-oil support center for platforms in the Santa Barbara channel. DCOR, Exxon, Plains Exploration and Production and VENECO use OST Truck and Crane and T&T Truck and Crane to load vessels with equipment and supplies at Port of Hueneme and Irwin Industries fabricates equipment and pieces for the off-shore oil platforms. In fiscal year 2012, about 1.3 million tons of cargo moved via these terminals and were produced and consumed by exporters and importers located within the metropolitan region, the State of California, as well as throughout the Southwest and the Western States.  An economic impact report conducted in 2012 shows the Port generates 2,277 direct jobs, 2,727 induced jobs, and indirect jobs. Induced jobs are those jobs supporting the local purchases made by the 2,277 individuals holding the direct jobs due to maritime cargo and vessel activity. Should the direct jobs be lost from the economy, the induced jobs supporting the purchases of the direct jobs would also be lost. These jobs are with local grocery stores, retail outlets, restaurants, transportation services, local government services, schools, hospitals, etc.  A total of $50.8 million of state and local tax revenue was generated by maritime activity at the Port’s marine terminals in 2012(FY). In addition, $12.9 million of state and local taxes were created due to the economic activity of the users of the cargo moving via the marine terminals.  Jason Hodge, President of the Board of Commissioners of the Oxnard Harbor District, will present the State of the Port address at the October 10 Good Morning Oxnard breakfast. It will be held at the Residence Inn at River Ridge. Advance reservations are requested and can be made with a credit card here or by calling the office at 805-983-6118.   source: http://oxnardcacoc.weblinkconnect.com/external/wcpages/wcnews/newsarticledisplay.aspx?articleid=200
