TND Media Context Review / By Eric Dubin Martin-Armstrong-Global-Economy

Add Martin Armstrong to the list of public commentators that understand what’s going on with the “consent of the governed.”  In his latest posting to his website, Armstrong Economics, he notes:

“We cannot escape the fact that people have lost their faith in government. The latest polls show the approval rating of the US Congress has fallen to 11%. When the USA started bombing Libya, even support for Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi was at 85% and at its lowest point it was 15%. Today,  57% of voters not affiliated with either major party disapprove of the job Obama is doing. The world at large regards Edward Snowden as a hero and have depicted him as a crusader against a nefarious surveillance state reminiscent of the East German Stasi. Obama will not prosecute any banker and will protect them only because Goldman Sachs was his biggest contributor. Obama considers collaboration and conscience among free thinking people as treason, science is considered a matter of opinion when it does not support the desires of government, immigration is considered a threat, and every solution is a suboptimal compromise enacted at midnight and where every day we see proof of the theory that America is a country that is nothing like its design.”

This is not a new observation.  To Armstrong’s credit, he’s been pounding the table on this theme for quite some time.

Armstrong is best known for his economic forecasting based on his own, proprietary cycles theories.  But what sets him apart and is emblematic of his true genius is that he’s anything but a one dimensional thinker.  Many people that fixate on cycles theories of one form or another tend to use the tool(s) in a vacuum.  This is particularly common with practitioners of Kondratiev Cycles Theory, and it’s not exactly clear why a near religious adherence to the methodology governs many of these practitioners, but it could be that the theory is elegant, and offers neat, discrete categories of time cycles and for a stretch of a couple of hundred years actually did match object reality partly quite well.

Armstrong, in contrast, is miles above a mere cycles theory thinker.  He deeply understands history, and he is well adept at context mapping and systems thinking, which enables a more refined sensitivity to seeing trends in the near- and long-term.  This is exactly the same skill set masterfully employed by people like George Celente.

There’s a major shift developing in America and abroad.  For the past two weeks I’ve been writing about it.  Armstrong, Paul Craig Roberts, Lew Rockwell, Alex Jones…  They all see it.  Not too long from now, if we’re lucky, mainstream commentators will switch from mocking the trend they don’t understand today to accepting it and speaking about it as if it was always there, and as if they had been reporting the development of the trend all along.  If this day comes, it will signify that the “consent of the governed” domestically and “moral authority” internationally will be on the mend, as “leaders” FOLLOW the will of the people.  It’s early days, but we can hope – and work politically, mostly on a local basis, to make it so.
