Fourteen NASA websites have apparently been targeted by Brazilian hackers with a social message they want to put out there. Starting last week numerous NASA sites ending in nasa.gov were targeted by individuals opposed to intervention in Syria.
According to Mashable each defaced web page the hackers hit had the following social message:
“NASA HACKED! BY #BMPoCWe! Stop spy on us! The Brazilian population do not support your attitude! The Illuminati are now visibly acting! Obama heartless! Inhumane! you have no family? the point in the entire global population is supporting you. NOBODY! We do not want war, we want peace!!! Do not attack the Syrians!”
Some of the sites after being hacked were then shut down. A NASA spokesperson said the hacking incidents are under investigation and thought to have been caused by a Brazilian hacker group. The spokesperson also assured that sensitive information was not compromised.
The sites attacked contain information on space exploration programs, planetary exploration and the Kepler space telescope. Experts believe these sites were targeted because they have weak cyber security and are easy to access.
