Sandra Echeverria Credits Perseverance For Her Success
Mexican actress Sandra Echeverria says perseverance has been the key to her success in the music business, in Mexican television and cinema and now in Hollywood.
The 28-year-old Echeverria got her breakthrough Hollywood role in Oliver Stone’s 2012 film “Savages,” joining a cast led by John Travolta, Benicio del Toro and Blake Lively, but she said her success in Hollywood has involved a lot of hard work and an ability to handle rejection.
“It’s been many years of work, a lot of patience. I’ve been in Los Angeles for nearly 10 years, going to all the auditions. It took me three years to get a role,” the actress told Efe in an interview.
“It’s very difficult and you have to learn to accept a negative answer. The word ‘no’ didn’t destroy me, but instead gave me strength to keep going.”
The artist began her career as a singer at age nine and by age 14 was a member of the pop group Perfiles, which recorded two albums.
While with the band, Mexican broadcast giant Televisa contacted her to appear in the soap opera “Subete a mi moto,” an experience that kindled Echeverria’s desire to be an actress.
“At age 19, I fell in love with acting and decided to move to Los Angeles to study and train as an actress,” Echeverria, who splits her time between Hollywood and the Mexican capital, said.
Since her television debut, Echeverria has participated in other soaps and had a minor role in the U.S. drama series “The Bridge.”
The actress has worked on three Mexican films this year that are due to be released in the coming months and still continues to pursue her music career.
She also said she would be producing her first film, “Un novio para tu mujer,” which is set to begin filming “in a couple of months.”
