Because of the radiation at the site the 6,375 rods in the common storage pool could not be continuously cooled; they would fission and all of humanity will be threatened, for thousands of years. in a pool 6 stories up on reactor 4 which is leaking as fast as filling are 1500 spent fuel rods there from over the years.. also in the pool are 40 new MOX rods that where going to be installed ( i shat you not ) that day,3/11/11.. but never happend because stuxnet virus an mini nukes where unleashed to cause the tsunami ( no earthquake ) an reactor meltdowns of units 1,2,3 ..
unit 4 didn’t meltdown because it was in shutdown to be re-rodded that that day 3/11/11..but unit 4 contained the storage cooling pool for the entire site that is now leaning badly an the backfilled manmade ground is so nuked it’s turning to quicksand by the day..

Actually you don’t get it or are trolling.
Chernobyl happened because a series of power surges caused the graphite moderator to explode, exposing the core (no containment structure) and leading to radioactive smoke fallout devastating the region.
Fukishima, however, went into meltdown because the reactor couldn’t cool itself due to flooding after a tsumani. Fukishima placement was retarded but had very effective containment structures/shells to stop any major ecological disaster. Placing a reactor on such a tectonically active area on a tsunami hit plain is absolute negligence and has seriously hurt the global nuclear/clean power effort to break reliance on fossil fuels. Contamination issues such as this will always be a problem with fission as the reaction takes so long to stop if a problem occurs.
Fission disasters just underscore the need of a Fusion future (JET / ITER). Japan has hope as always, but if your trolling you should seriously rethink your attitude when trying to get a laugh about an environmental disaster.

So you think there is more pedophile abuse in Japan than other countries. So you think Japanese children, who are suffering more pedo abuse, deserve to ADD to that by radiation that will hit them too? That makes no sense. It would hurt everyone, including children, if things went bad.
(Also as pointed out on my page /health/2013/09/the-crisis-at-fukushima-4-demands-a-global-take-over-2505658.html even the mem of “the heck with Japan let it sink” doesn’t make sense – radiation could be released into the atmosphere in quantities that threaten us all, as experts quoted indicate)
Look at the bright side. At least this could spawn a new generation of Godzilla movies. And in the future, you won’t need the power grid to find a can of tuna at night: they’ll glow! Besides, worrying about thousands of years is really premature, when Obama almost got us into WW3, just a couple weeks ago. Cheer up! We’re bound to do something even more stupid!
Humanity will NOT be threatened for thousands of years if this goes out of control. There is no more radiation coming from the fuel rods then there was in the radioactive elements to begin with before they were purified and formed into rods. It is simply much more concentrated now. This is not good for the region mind you, but it does not threaten humanity.
