J. Bruce Campbell of Extremism Online believes President Barack Obama’s polices are creating a “communistic society” in which American citizens live under the government‘s surveillance.
“Obama is reportedly a communist and every action he takes is communistic and the hallmark of a communist society that he is trying to force upon us is total surveillance,” Campbell told Press TV on Tuesday.
President Obama has promised a “complete review” of US surveillance programs but critics charge that the pledge is just aimed at assuaging world leaders who are incensed with US spying.
In a hearing before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, General Keith Alexander, the director of the National Security Agency, said the reports that his agency collected millions of phone records in Europe were “completely false.”
Campbell dismissed Alexander’s defense of his agency, pointing out that the general was “the man in charge of Abu Gharib torture center in Iraq.”
“He is the very same man who was in charge of all these CIA torture black sites around the world including Abu Gharib,” he added.
“We’re confronted with this communistic and totalitarian mentality at the top of our government and it’s a war with the entire world,” he noted.
Revelations from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden have damaged ties between Washington and its European allies. Senior officials from Germany plan to travel to Washington in the coming days to register their anger.
A senior European official warned on Tuesday that it is “urgent and essential” that Washington take action to rebuild transatlantic ties after the revelation that it spied on European leaders.
“Friends and partners do not spy on each other,” said Viviane Reding, vice president of the European Commission and EU Justice Commissioner, in a Washington speech.
