Two bus drivers died Friday in separate acts of violence in the Guatemalan capital, first responders said.
Geovanni Chiguichon, 28, died at the scene in La Reformita, a neighborhood on the south side of Guatemala City, after unknown assailants shot him, fire rescue said.
Another bus driver, identified as Sergio Arturo Ramirez, died at a capital hospital of gunshot wounds.
Ramirez worked for a transit company that carries passengers between Guatemala City and Santa Catarina Pinula.
Authorities said it was possible the drivers were killed for refusing to pay protection money to extortion gangs that target bus operators.
More than 110 transit workers were killed in Guatemala in the first 10 months of 2013, according to figures from the Mutual Support Group, an independent human rights organization.
