Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo to be Inducted into Radio Hall of Fame, First Mexican-American Honored
Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo, radio personality and host of SiriusXM’s ‘El Show de Piolin,’ will be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame on November 9, 2013, where he will become the first Mexican-American to be honored.
Jalisco native Sotelo, better known as Piolin, has enjoyed a broadcasting career for over 20 years. On October 18, he launched his show on the SiriusXM network after having his show cancelled on the Univision Radio Network.
Piolin is the first Latino radio personality to host his own Spanish-language show and channel exclusively on SiriusXM.
Earlier this year Piolin’s long-running show was cancelled after several former and current employees accused the radio personality of sexual harassment and workplace humiliation. He countered with a defamation suit against his accusers in August. Sotelo’s Univision program aired nationally on about 50 stations for nearly 10 years, and at one time was the region’s No. 1-rated morning program in any language.
Upon hearing of his induction Piolin said, “I feel blessed, honored, and humbled to be included in the company of such great talent. And, I am thankful to each and every one of my fans and listeners of ‘El Show de Piolin’ who inspire me every day and who have guided me toward the opportunity to receive this great honor.”
Piolin has received other honors in his long career including several NAB Marconi Radio Awards.
The induction ceremony will take place at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, Illinois.
