30k killed by guns in US since Dec. 2012
Guns have caused the death of more than 30 thousand people in the United States since the tragic Newtown shooting in December last year, according to Slate.com.
The website says the figure is based on the data provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Using the most recent CDC estimates for yearly deaths by guns in the United States, it is likely that as of today, 11/11/2013, roughly 30,075 people have died from guns in the US since the Newtown shootings, according to the report.
The website has also been trying to track down the number of gun-related deaths reported in the country�™s news media since the Newtown shooting.
According to the gun death tally project by the Slate.com, as of today, 11/11/2013 more than 10,371 gun-related deaths have been reported in the country�™s news outlets since December last year.
The report adds that nearly 60 percent of gun-related deaths in the US are due to suicides.
The US has been discussing how to control high gun deaths rate since 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, killing twenty schoolchildren and six adult staff members.
