The ground is beginning to shake under the political status quo. The 2014 election might very well turn into a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. The entire US House of Representatives is up for reelection, along with 33 of 100 US Senate seats and a great many state offices. Democrats are distancing themselves from President Obama and Obamacare, as incumbents have a tough fight ahead. While the President and the leadership of the Democratic Party was initially successful in framing the partial
government shutdown as a Republican Party production, the reality of Obamacare has led many to investigate and discover the President played a role in exacerbating the standoff.
Meanwhile, the Republican party is deeply divided. Republican incumbents are facing a growing number of candidates aligned with Tea Party principles, candidates with more traditional conservative values, people that see liberty and Constitutional principles as the north star to guide America in these troubling times. Many refer to the incumbent “old guard” of the Republican party as “RINOs” — “Republicans In Name Only.”
The Republican “old guard” leadership are taking this threat very seriously. For a perfect example, look no further than what American Crossroads has been up to. The Super PAC founded by former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie and former White House strategist Karl Rove recently held a conference call on the topic of the growing Tea Party threat. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell participated on the call. According to a breitbart.com source, McConnell said the Tea Party movement represents “nothing but a bunch of bullies” he plans to “punch … in the nose.” The same source reported that Rove delivered a slightly more diplomatic message: “If we’re going to save this thing, we have to back real Republicans.”
There you have it. This is a battle over just who gets to claim the mantle of “real Republicans.”

Dennis Linthincum with Jackson County’s Campaign for Liberty at the Defend Rural America conference, Grants Pass, Oregon, Sept. 21, 2013
Today, you’re in for a treat. Liberty Rising Radio is pleased to bring to you an interview with Dennis Linthincum. Mr. Linthincum currently serves as the chair of the board of commissioners in Klamath County, Oregon. He has launched a Republican primary election challenge to current US House of Representatives member Greg Walden. In addition to representing the 2nd district in Oregon, Greg Walden just so happens to be the current chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, which works to help Republicans to get elected.
Needless to say, Mr. Linthincum’s campaign makes for an interesting case study. We spend about an hour discussing a number of subjects. I consciously made an effort to ensure our topics would be of interest to a national audience as well as to Oregonians — with just an exception or two, including a discussion about poor forestry management leading to rampant wildfires in Western and Southern US States. The chart discussed in the context of that subject is available by clicking here.
I hope this interview provides Oregonians a better understanding for Dennis Linthincum’s ideas, and the national audience an ability to step into the mind of one of the many liberty-focused people attempting to move Washington politics in a direction away from big, centralized government, and more towards state and local government control, and a greater appreciation for Constitutional principles.
Thank you for listening!
