US President Barack Obama™s approval ratings are still plummeting in his fifth year in office as Americans are not satisfied with his handling of the economy, a new poll says.
The survey conducted by the Pew Research Center said on Friday that only 41 percent of respondents approve of Obama™s job and 53 percent disapprove. The 12 point deficit is the largest of his presidency.
According to the poll, Obama™s new job ratings resembled his predecessor George W. Bush. In his fifth year, just 36 percent of Americans approved of Bush™s job performance, down from 48 percent in December 2004.
The ratings on the economy have been more negative than positive for more than four years, but the current measure is the worst of his presidency.
Sixty-five percent disapprove of the way Obama is handling the economy and only 31 percent approve.
About handling the economy, 75 percent of independents disapprove of his job, while 34 percent of Democrats disapprove.
About the US president™s healthcare policies, 59 percent of Americans gave negative ratings.
The Obama administration has come under sharp criticism for the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.
In an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Obama apologized for Americans who are losing their current health insurance plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act.
He offered the apology despite his repeated claim that anyone who wanted to keep his or her insurance could keep it.
œI am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said.
