Protesters across the United States marched against the mainstream media on Saturday, saying the American people deserve œthe truth”.
Demonstrators targeted the headquarters of media giants like ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and FOX News, decrying their narrow coverage of world affairs.
The activist groups that organized the March Against Mainstream Media (MAMM) also challenged the mainstream media to cover the protests.
The protests are œan attack against the credibility of the mainstream media in an attempt to steer its viewers away from its lies and towards alternative media sources,” the organizers said on their website.
œThe United States Mainstream Media is the #1 tool used against the American people and we have to get the mass public to turn away from this garbage once and for all and actually start thinking for ourselves,” they added.
The protesters also said big media outlets had two options: œreport on the fact that thousands of people are currently protesting outside of their buildings because they are keeping important news from the public™s eyes,” or ignore them.
One banner in High Point California read, œBoycott the media!” while in Kansas City supporters of the movement wearing Anonymous masks delivered the message œAmerica deserves the truth!”
Americans’ distrust in the media hit a new high last year as a Gallup poll last September revealed 60 percent of the American public had little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly.
The findings of the Gallup poll showed distrust in the US mass media was up from the past few years, when the American people were already more negative about the media than they had been in years prior to 2004.
