American author Ralph Schoenman says there is a wing of the United States ruling class, in line with Israel lobby, that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of Iran through threats of sanctions and military force.
Top Republican and Democratic lawmakers voiced skepticism about the newly struck interim nuclear agreement with Iran, and vowed to keep up the pressure with more sanctions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had warned Washington against diplomacy with Tehran, also responded angrily after the accord was announced on Sunday.
œNetanyahu reflects a wing of the United States™ ruling class that is using the current situation as an opportunity to prepare for war and to constantly increase the demands and to undermine any ultimate agreement by utilizing it as an opening for yet greater demands upon the sovereignty of Iran,” Schoenman told Press TV.
Schoenman said that the West is œusing sanctions and threats of war to obtain greater concessions with respect to the sovereignty and future of independence of Iran,” he added.
œThere is a wing of the ruling class that has been pushing for war but all wings of the ruling class use all methods including the negotiations as a part of a process of attempting to undermine the sovereignty of countries that they target, Iran primary amongst these,” he stated.
After more than four days of intense negotiations in Geneva, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — the US, Britain, Russia, France, China– plus Germany, sealed an interim deal on Sunday morning to pave the way for the full resolution of the West™s decade-old dispute with Iran over the country™s nuclear energy program.
