Sheriff won’t lower US flag for Mandela

A South Carolina sheriff says he won’t lower the flag at his office to honor the late Nelson Mandela because the former South African president wasn’t American.
President Barack Obama ordered flags across the country flown at half-staff until sundown Monday to honor Mandela, South Africa’s first black president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, who died Thursday at age 95.
Rick Clark, sheriff of Pickens County, said lowering the US flag to half-staff should be reserved for US citizens, GreenvilleOnline.com reported.
“The flag at half-staff is for Americans’ ultimate sacrifice for our country,” Clark said. “We should never stray away from that.”
The flag outside the sheriff’s office was already at half-staff during daylight Friday to honor a law enforcement officer who was killed and in commemoration of the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Friday evening, however, Clark said, the flag would be raised.
The sheriff posted a message on his Facebook page saying that he thought Mandela “did great things for his country and was a great man.” However, he felt lowering the flag for a non-US citizen “weakens what it means to that person who has died for the United States of America.”
The federal flag code “functions simply as a guide” and has no penalties or enforcement provisions, says a report issued by the US Senate.
Former President George W. Bush ordered the flag lowered after the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005. UPI

The Flag of these United States is “reserved” for those in defense of these United States, all else will just have to settle for their country half staffing their own damned flags, it has nothing whatsoever to do with this Nation. By lowering the meaning and symbols of our most trusted to the level of a communist/progressive/Marxist/Islamic totalitarian system is the ultimate insult to this Nations veterans and Patriots. It is an insult to even mention “how great of a man” this mandella was, he was no such thing, ever. A known communist, Marxist, fool is closer to the truth of the matter regarding this damned fool these liberals are all foaming at the mouth over, and why wouldn’t they, they and he are of the same feathers of ill will. The fact they have portrayed him as something he was never even close to, a so-called freedom fighter for the common man of his nation was hog-wash from the get go. Those of us who lived the historical, truths and nature of this fraud are not convinced as to who, and what he was, another wished he was, and never was, of the communist construct, we are not fooled as to what he was, not at all. We lived through the years of this so called freedom fighter, and can tell you, just as President Ronald Regan once stated ” the liberals know so much that it just isn’t so” that he was simple a manufactured somebody pushing the usual liberal caltrap of lies, deception and no truth whatsoever about this so called man of the people. He, mandella, was a threat to all free peoples of this earth-period, and just because the liberal idiots were backing him doesn’t mean he was what they portrayed him to be, much like this current mutt they are backing these days, a so called man by the name of barry soetto, aka, Obama’s bin lyn’, aka, barack insane Obama, aka, the so called pResident of these united States of America, not even close, and in fact they were/are both frauds.
