An American activist says the US government is not reliable to take care of American citizens as the economic gap is getting wider between the rich and the poor in the country.
œWe do not have the reliability of our government that looks after its people unfortunately at this point in our history,” CODEPINK activist Tighe Barry told Press TV on Saturday.
A powerful winter storm has wreaked havoc across much of the US and affected the lives of millions after slamming into the nation’s midsection on Friday.
Santa Clara County coroner’s office spokeswoman Rosie Dominguez confirmed the deaths of four people because of hypothermia in the San Francisco Bay Area while the region is gripped by freezing temperatures.
Three of the victims died in homeless encampments while a fourth person died in a garage in the county on the south end of San Francisco Bay.
Temperatures dropped as low as 30 degrees at San Jose International Airport early Friday.
œToday, we have more billionaires that ever before and the division between the richest people and the poor people is getting wider and wider,” Barry said.
œWe™re seeing more middle class people, who™ve lost their jobs due to the economic crash in 2008, who can™t find jobs, who are now living out of their cars and will face these conditions of freezing temperatures with their children,” the activist added.
