Jesus walked with Peter, James and John towards Gethsemane. Jesus became filled with sorrow and said to Peter, James and John, “Wait here and be watchful.” Jesus went a little further, fell to the ground and prayed, that if it “was possible, the hour might pass from him.” This was an obvious request to avoid going to the cross. He prayed, “Abba (Dear) Father…take away this cup (of suffering) from me…. And again he prayed the same prayer.” (Mark 14:32-39.)
Jesus asked to avoid the cross. God said, “No.”
Jesus endured the pain of a slow death like any other human being endured on a Roman cross. However, on the cross he became our sin. He became “sin for us” and the sin of us. When Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me!”, his cry issued from the fact that God turned his back on him when he (God) allowed the Holy One to become sin.
Jesus died for you. However, he also endured becoming your sin, and the loneliness and terror of being forsaken by God on your behalf.
Jesus became your sin. That is why if you accept his love-gift of the cross on your behalf, you can go to heaven when you die. He became your sin so you could become sin-free in the sight of God.
“For he (God) has made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (1 Corinthians 5:21.)
The Bible is clear. (Philippians 2:8-11.) Every person shall kneel at the name of and to the person of Jesus the Christ in sincere belief (confidence) and verbal confession that he is Lord and King. Those who do so before the point of death go to heaven when they die. Those who do so after the point of their physical death, go to hell immediately after they kneel in front of Jesus. The wise do this during their lifetime. The fool does this after physical death. When you kneel determines where you go. That decision is yours to make. The promise below expires at the point of physical death.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. (Romans 10:9-10.)

You missed the most important part.
Jesus said “Not My will, but Yours be done.”
He went to the cross willingly so we could be set free.
He cried ‘It is finished’ so we knew we could rest in that finished work.
We are the beloved of God,
His perfect lovely bride,
When we accept that sacrifice as our own.
