Americans are mesmerised by cop shows. They love forensic shows, like CSA and others. But the truth is not a telivision show. Forensic work isnt like CSI. Sometimes evidence is collected, and gatghers dust in evidence rooms.

Rape victims submit to invasive rape kit evidence collection. And sometimes that evidence moulders in police labs for years, even decades.

It is one of the most disturbing stories about police indifference, and a rape-victim’s worst fear. Yet the vast majority of national media has completely overlooked the recent discovery of almost 100 rape kits that have sat in storage – untested – for years. MOREHERE

 

That was in Florida. Apparently Chicago is not using rape kits to catch rapists, either.  And LA has thousanads of untested rape kits too. Some of the rape kits they abandoned in an evidence room without testing go all the way back to the Eighties.
