Doesn’t God say that we should not make Graven images of Him in His commandments? I am sure He struck it for just that.
Any tall object positioned on top of a high hill will be a prime target for lightning. I suspect it has been struck many times before, and I don’t know that I’d put any kind of spiritual significance to this particular time.
God obviously chose this time to show the world just what He thinks of the catholic churches* misrepresentation of who Jesus was and did. I have been warning them for years that God really does NOT like anybody to put words in His mouth. Timothy covered that.
