Solar Flare-415074

Returning sunspot AR1967 has produced a strong M6 flare which sent a coronal mass ejection off into space at the incredible speed of 1,305 miles per second (2100km/s). The CME won’t hit us due to the sunspots position but over the next few days, as it moves across the sun disc earth will be in the firing line.

The spot has developed the beta-gamma-delta magnetic field required to produce X-class flares, and it is currently twice the size of the Earth.

NOAA estimate the chance of further M-class flares at 60%, and X-class at 10% though this could well change in light of the flare producing ability of AR1967.

Todays sunspot number is 96.
