5 Reasons Why You Should Take a Disney Cruise

(Before It's News)

Although there are numerous cruise lines to choose from, after having now taken three Disney cruises, I feel that you can't go wrong “sailing the high seas” with the Walt Disney Company. However, if you need more convincing as to why you should cruise with Mickey and his friends as opposed to another cruise line, read on!

1.) Castaway Cay-Disney's own PRIVATE island in the Bahamas
While a Caribbean cruise will undoubtedly take you to stunning beaches, how many cruise lines will take you to their own private island where the only logistical work involved consists of getting off the ship and finding a good lounge chair? There is no need to pay extra money for those guided excursions (you know the ones where you're herded like “cattle” and then spend more time getting to and from your destination than the time you actually get to spend at your destination) not to mention food and drink, well, it's all part of your cruise sailing rate (unless that is you're addicted to those mai tais). And a big plus for me is you can relax on the beach without constantly being harassed by local vendors wanting to sell you any and everything. The only workers walking the shores of Castaway Cay are the Disney Cruise Line staff and if you say you're not in the mood for that strawberry daiquiri, well that's that (although for the most part servers will not even approach you unless signaled).

2.) Due to its deluxe experience, it can be a fabulous getaway for adults
Many people hear Disney and automatically equate it to families and mobs of screaming children. While there are both of the above (I only saw one child who was really having a meltdown on my most recent Disney cruise), everything about Disney is high end and so if you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway, you can't go wrong on a Disney sailing. All four of its ships offer an Italian-style adults-only restaurant (Palo), and on its two newest ships (the Dream and Fantasy), there is also Remy, a French restaurant offering one of the most incredible culinary experiences ever. You also have the Quiet Cove which is the adults-only section of the ship featuring a pool and two hot tubs (yes, children under 18 are not permitted here so mom and dad, you need to park the young ones elsewhere). Some of the adults-only activities include tasting classes (beer, martini, and wine), dance parties, and countless live music offerings. One of the things I love most about sailing with Disney as an adult is the adults-only area of Castaway Cay, Serenity Bay. It's a beach area reserved for just those 18 and older and there's also an offshoot of the BBQ restaurant (Cookie's) so one doesn't even need to dine with children if they don't want to while on the private island.

3.) You can opt when you “want” Disney
While yes, there are countless opportunities for character greetings and Disney movies that play 'round the clock on the massive LED screen by the main pool, there are also numerous places where one can go on a Disney cruise ship and never “encounter” Mickey. The Senses Spa and fitness area is completely devoid of anything Disney (no, Goofy isn't going to be giving you that massage), the Quiet Cove section has nothing “Disney” in it, and the After Hours section of the Disney Magic (it's similar on the other ships) which is home to the various nightclubs and lounges is also “Disneyless”. So in short, when you want the over the top Disney experience you can have it and when you want a break from “Disney,” you can also have that too.

4.) The Disney cruise line is the ONLY one that has fireworks at sea

Fireworks at sea…fireworks that rival what you would see put on by a city for Fourth of July festivities…need I say more?

5.) Rotational dining
On Disney ships there are three main restaurants and each night guests dine at a new restaurant thus allowing them to try them all out (on cruises longer than three nights there are obviously repeats but I was told that special themed dinners take place on those night). So instead of dining at the same restaurant every night of your cruise, not only do you get to partake in different cuisines, but you also get to dine in a different venue. On the Disney Magic there is a French-inspired restaurant (Lumiere's), a South American/Brazilian-style restaurant (Carioca's), and Animator's Palate, a restaurant that features an amazing dinner show that only from dining there can you see how unique an experience it is.

So, provided a Disney cruise sails where you want to (this shouldn't be too hard as they cruise everywhere from the Caribbean to Alaska, to the Pacific Coast on the western United States to even the Mediterranean) and you can afford it, go for it! You will not regret it.
