CopBlock.org Website Additions

(Before It's News)

Over the last month we’ve made some changes here at CopBlock.org. The most-visible and biggest undertaking was the a site revamp. Thanks to some good planning ahead of time and the involvement of the good folks at Liberty Web Alliance it went off without a hitch. While the last iteration of CopBlock.org was functional and well-received, this new theme has a more intuitive layout that’s much more friendly to mobile devices, where around 40% of visits originate.

Cop Block gets a good amount of traffic – over 5,000 unique visitors per day from around the globe*. Since the site was founded over four years ago, the trend has been steadily upward – a reflection both of the caliber of content and resources here, as well as the timeliness of the police accountability conversation in general.

Our monthly expenses are pretty lean, especially when compared to the reach we’ve had, both online and in the real world, but still, they exist. To help offset those outlays we recently added two new affiliate programs – for Amazon and for Amagi Metals.

If you plan to a purchase on Amazon, please take a moment to click through one of those portals and Cop Block will get a percentage of your total (usually 3-6%). It won’t cost you anymore and it’ll help this site stay afloat; and most importantly, will help us continue to introduce to others the fact that badges don’t grant extra rights.

If you recognize the need to divest yourself of Federal Reserve Notes or are an advocate of free banking and click through that graphic and purchase any gold, silver, or other precious metals, a small percentage will come back to Cop Block, again, to help offset IT costs.

If you recognize the name Amagi Metals it could be because they were one of the sponsors of the Police Accountability Tour late last year.

The page CopBlock.org/JoinUs was just revamped. Here’s an excerpt:

“Can you please contact me regarding becoming a member?”

“I was thinking about joining Cop Block but I’m not sure how would I go about doing it…“

“I would like to be a part of your group!”

Those statements are just a few of the many received from individuals who’ve reached out and expressed their interest in getting more involved with Cop Block. Perhaps you are now wondering the same. This page exists to provide an answer, indirect as it may initially seem. You see, Cop Block doesn’t have a membership process per se – it’s more of an idea than an institution. If you agree that badges don’t grant extra rights and you abstain from actions that initiate force, you’re welcome to consider yourself part of Cop Block.

The page then goes on to give some suggestions about ways to get involved, including connecting and collaborating with those active in ones own area.

We also stepped-up CopBlock.org/Donate to make it more succinct and compelling, and added CopBlock.org/Reach-and-Costs for transparency.

We added the widget “RSS Aggregator” to the sidebar of CopBlock.org, which displays the content posted from many of the city- or region- based groups to get more eyes on the active groups and to underscore the interconnectedness of this growing decentralized network.

Also, just prior to the site revamp,we added the pages Film The Police and FOIA Requests in an effort to house pertinent information in one place.

Thanks to all who’ve been involved thus far! Remember, the end goal is not to grow CopBlock.org but to live in a world where the need for the site is nonexistent.
