Western forces have been at the very least fueling the conflict in Ukraine. These very same forces are ironically prepared to impose hefty sanctions against that country after the latest street protests in which police have faced different protest camps around Kiev. The not so secret intervention in internal conflict seems to be the modus operandi of the US and Europe as it has been seen in the Middle East for the past 15 years and more recently in Venezuela, Ukraine and Brazil.
Intervention and involvement in places like Ukraine begins with economic sabotage and when this doesn’t work, western forces always activate their infiltrators in nations where they have an interest in getting in to take over politics and economics. This is the case of the EU.
The European Union has now raised the tone about Ukraine. Following the escalation of violence in the last 24 hours, which has been helped by Brussels, technocrats are now announcing the ‘possible’ imposition of sanctions, a strategy which is used in a third step of the conquering process, when a government does not accept foreign influence.
The High Representative for European Foreign Policy, Catherine Ashton has launched a proposal to punish Ukraine for the escalating conflict, even though it is America’s and Europe’s intervention what has escalated the street fights. Now, European member nations are set to approve the sanctions as soon as today.
The president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, a champion of technocracy and centralized control, has called on countries to adopt this tool. “We hope that the measures aimed at those responsible for the violence and the excessive use of force may be agreed by the Member States urgently,” he confided in a statement pointing to “the political leaders of the country” as responsible while saying it was the EU’s responsibility to “ensure the necessary protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.”
While this threat had been invoked several times until now, Brussels had kept the imposition of sanctions as an “ace in the hole”, and now, the same people who instigated the conflict in Ukraine are ready to do as much as blocking political leaders’ actions and freezing assets in Europe.
In view of the deterioration suffered, European diplomacy believes it is time to take action against Yanukovych, but remains to be seen whether the proposal will achieve the necessary support from the member countries.
Meanwhile, Polish president, Donald Tusk, and the Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt asked for intervention from Brussels, with Bildt saying that Yanukovych “has blood on his hands”, a language that, in the words of diplomats, implies that the EU already has little hope that the president can lead a resolution the conflict. This idea is exactly what any European politician is hoping to get a consensus on, so that full sanctions can be imposed on Ukraine and the collapse of the country is assured.
Ashton plans to convene an extraordinary Council on Foreign Affairs meeting today in order to approve the sanctions, which in principle have majority support. French President François Hollande, has already shown interest in discussing them.
Hollande is set to talk about the Ukrainian crisis with his German counterpart, Angela Merkel. The two leaders will be accompanied by their foreign ministers. “We will not remain indifferent. I’ll talk with the German delegation on possible sanctions”, said the head of French diplomacy, Laurent Fabius.
