Female Narco and Colombian Guerilla Extradited from Guatemala to U.S.
Guatemala on Monday extradited to the United States a reputed Colombian rebel commander accused of drug trafficking, authorities said.
An Interior Ministry spokeswoman told Efe that Sonia Cruz Quinceño was arrested Sunday in the Guatemalan capital.
“Yesterday this person was handed over to DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) agents, who took custody of her, (and) this morning … she was transferred on a United States government flight,” the spokeswoman said.
Authorities did not allow the media access to the airbase from where the aircraft took off to take the prisoner to the United States.
Cruz Quinceño, 47, was arrested by Guatemalan police in coordination with Interpol and the DEA as she was driving in a luxury vehicle through a heavily traveled area in the southern part of the capital.
A Colombian man thought to be her husband, who was with her at the time of her capture, remained free because “there was no arrest warrant out for him.”
Cruz Quinceño is the head of the 36th Front of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, according to Guatemalan authorities.
She was being sought by the United States for drug and weapons trafficking violations, as well as money laundering and other criminal acts.
