With the Obamacare legislation causing more and more employers to have to lay people off or reduce their hours, it’s easy to get sucked into negativity and take a dim view of the situation. You know, some people are just so pessimistic when it comes to having their hours at work cut.  They always think about all of that glass half empty stuff, silly things like paying the bills, keeping the electricity on, and feeding their children.

But Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) knows how to look on the bright side. In a recent episode of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, the representative pointed out some of the myriad benefits of this reduction of work hours.

What the Congressional Budget Office is saying is that we’re going to discouraged kids having to have latchkeys. We’re going to have parents being able to come home, working reasonable hours; people are going to be able to retire. People might be able to actually cook dinner rather than have to order out and get some takeout.

I mean, the fact is, is that if Americans can have more choices to open up a new business they’ve been wanting to start, this is a good thing. You know, if you look at international comparisons country by country, Americans work way more than an average of industrialized countries around the world.

And you know, we might want to look at our work — our work-life balance and this is something that gives us a great opportunity –

I mean, the fact of the matter is we need a better work-life balance. Ask a working mother, OK, if she could use a few more hours in a day to take care of her family. (source)

Well, gee, when you put it that way…WOW.  What a visionary! Having one’s pay reduced or even cut out altogether is wonderful!  Not only will Obamacare mean that we can pay more money for less healthcare, but it means we can have more time to cook our beans and rice (since that will be all we can afford due to our change in finances)!  Congressman Ellison is a stone cold genius and a sparkling ray of optimism who has totally changed my perspective on unemployment. It’s actually fantastic, a blessing in disguise!

One must wonder if his constituency is as tickled pink about the prospect of poverty, but with more family time and home cooked meals, as Ellison.

In honor of the Olympic Games, I’d like to rate the Congressman’s performance in the “spin” event. Honestly, I have to give Ellison a 9 for pure creativity when it comes to taking a dismal situation and trying to convince people that it’s great. However, he crashes and burns with about a 2 for sensitivity and empathy. Intelligence was too low to register, and this leaves him with an average score of 3.6.

Better luck with your next performance, Congressman Ellison.
