Raymond Johnson recalls being told that surgeons were opening up his chest to determine whether he had cancer or tuberculosis Photo: SWNS.com
A man had half a lung removed as treatment for lung cancer, was placed in quarantine for 10 days with TB and given a positive test result for HIV – only to be told he had none of the conditions.
Raymond Johnson, says the surgery and the ordeal have left him in poor health – and he still has no correct diagnosis for his original condition.
He says having 40 per cent of one of his lungs cut out has meant he often gets breathless and dizzy, while the lack of clarity over what was wrong with him has caused him to slip into depression.
The 57-year-old from Plymouth, Devon, went under the knife at Derriford Hospital in June 2010 and says he is only now strong enough to speak about his ordeal.
