Let there be light!
And there was light.
This application is best for emergency or temporary lighting. What we have done, is take the running lights off of a stock trailer, electrical wire spliced into the lights as well as a switch and two alligator clips. Then used a car battery to power. And viola! We can see!
Now recharging this car battery.
Since we have a 20 min drive to the shop (one way, everyday except Sundays) Husband came up with an ingenious way to utilize the gas we were already using. No, we aren't switching out batteries, we are piggy backing them.
We basically made small jumper cables, using 12 gauge Romex house wire. Splicing an on/off switch into them. The line is routed under the body and through the frame of the truck so that it doesn't hang nor gets a door closed on it. Then another set of alligator clips are secured to the trucks battery. Once the truck is started, you flip the switch on, and the second battery charges without depleting your other battery. But be sure to turn the switch off when you turn the truck off, or you will kill your working battery.
