Sochi and NBC coverage
Dr. A. H. Krieg
Listening to news before the Sochi games any American would have been terrified to visit Russia, after all the homophobes were in charge and the terrorists were everywhere. I must have heard 50 reports on terrorists in Russia the same sort of idiotic paranoia spewed out on American Television daily. There would be massive faggot protests, no one was safe from the Russian hating, the Russians were all homophobes (fear of the queers)—well, only according to the American media. Not only did they never let up, I have the definite feeling that they really hate Putin, who after all, everyone has to admit is about ten steps up from Obama. Some nations have actual leaders; others have liars. None, not one of their continuously touted horrors happened.
I think that the Russians made a mistake when they granted NBC exclusivity; I hope that they held out for many millions for the concession. Of course Obama could not go, after all it would have been a wonderful opportunity to seek out Putin and get on with some detent’. Was he on vacation again? Or was that last week when his charming wife and daughters went to Aspen for a little ski interlude, and he played golf again, what the hell the people are paying for it all, so why not? What, with over 1,000 days of vacation and golf in 1,809 days in office, we all understand that he is stressed out! Hell being a community organizer in Chicago, all you have to be able to do is dodge the bullets flying around, in those charming neighborhoods that need organizing. I wonder if he was wearing a hoodie, like the guy he thought was like his son, as he said if he had one.
Then on to Syria, Putin bailed him out nicely; I wonder what the price was? Perhaps non-interference in Ukraine! The way this administration and the EU has handled that problem reminds me of a certain British prime minister before Churchill. I think the word at that time was appeasement.
The reporting on the Olympics has been what I would call seriously censored as Pravda correctly stated. The cultural music events that according to my reports were outstanding, including Mozart, and a dozen Russian composers were completely omitted. The opening ceremony, which was also reported to be magnificent according to NZZ (Neue Zurcher Zeitung) cut all pro Russian issues out, they didn’t do that to the Chinese in the last Olympics, why to the Russians? The gratuitous comments by the head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach thanking the Russian Federation and Putin for their kindness and help, were purposely left out. NBC obviously buckled to the Obama administration, since the president did not go, the people should not see!
The Gray Lady outdid itself, editorializing in a substantial article how the entire games were overshadowed by anti-gay laws and social suffication of free speech. Say, that reminds me about PC –Oh, sorry Cultural Marxism as propagated by the same Gray Lady; daily in the Times editorial page, which of course does exactly that here in America.
I mean, perhaps I’m hard on the sports journalists at the NY Times and NBC, after all we can’t expect those football, basketball and baseball gurus to also be cognizant of Russian history, can we?
Let me clearly state I am well versed in freedom and history coming from the oldest democratically run nation in the world, Switzerland has been free since 1291, additionally I have seen my revisionist history and political books blacklisted, avoided, and distribution blocked for the last 20 years. Any American who thinks that we live in a free country, a republic, must be delusional. Everything in this country is over-regulated, freedom that once was is now a mere illusion, a memory of the past. Talk about over-regulation how’s 40,000 new laws in 2012 strike you, well probably not, but then there is the follow up, selective enforcement that allows the government to pick their targets so as to terrorize the citizens into complying with any obscure law they are unfamiliar with, just remember ignorance of the law is not an excuse, even if it takes 4 miles of library shelves to hold the law books.
According to the NZZ, one of the best newspapers in the world, which is neutral, the Sochi opening ceremony, was fantastic, they told of the male choir performing the Russian national anthem and the pageantry that demonstrated the path of the revolution, I am certainly not a communist but reality is reality and the Russians have a diverse and long history, much longer than ours which certainly should be part of any Russian organized event. Every one accepted this except NBC, which purposely eliminated it from American news coverage. We are the worse for it not the better. Sticking your head in the sand does not expand your horizons it dumbs you down, and that’s exactly where we are.
