Nine out of every 10 candidate medicines that appear safe and effective during animal tests, fail when given to humans—a waste of billions of Euros, millions of animal lives, and all the while failing to effectively address pressing human health needs. Industry, animal welfare advocates, government agencies and regulators are united in acknowledging the need for new human-relevant research approaches to address this problem.
