A HEROIC JOURNEY: MOVING BEYOND A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY – Brian Schulz

DEAR FRIENDS- In this period of history- where there is still an much pain being unintentionally passed from generation to generation and a serious blindness to the emotional needs of developing children- countless millions of us grew up in dysfunctional/emotionally damaging families.

The self-liberating and self-loving challenge for people who grew up in dysfunctional, abusive and/or invalidating families is twofold.

First we need to stop looking for love and validation from people who are too unconscious and closed-off to give it to us.

Secondly we need to focus all of our energy, passion and devotion on giving OURSELVES the love we need and deserve- from within!

In my own quest for healing I found that as I claimed and processed my anger and hurt about my family in my therapy- doing it with them would have served no purpose since they weren't open to hearing it!- I felt better and better. Recognizing the legitimacy of your own natural hurt and anger- fully feeling it, expressing it and letting it go- sets you free in a way that nothing else possibly can. And the newfound inner freedom, peace and aliveness you feel as a result grows into a lasting state of happiness!

And as my love and belief in myself, from within, grew, more and more people entered my life who saw the beauty in me. This is the most blessed “side effect” of loving oneself that there could ever be!

It is the hardest and most heroic inner work in the world- involving facing and releasing our core sadness, and developing an utter and uplifting faith in ourselves- to pull away from a family that drains us and find our strong and self-affirming space in this beautiful world.

For some of us this requires a radical separation and for others a new attitude and way of relating to a family that cannot meet us in our Authentic Selves and open hearts.

In the Sacred Core of your body, heart and soul is the ability to set yourself free- of EVERYTHING.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Whatever form your self-validating path takes the more you achieve this the stronger, wiser and happier you become. Let go of all the voices, all the conditioning that make you doubt who and what you ARE. Wake up and see your amazing beauty and rightness and you will find the lifelong joy of unconditional love and belief- in YOU! LOTS OF LOVE- BRIAN
