The British public do not want a referendum on the European Union “right now”, David Cameron has said.


The Prime Minister claimed that voters were happy to wait for a say on Britain’s place in the EU until after the general election, when the terms of membership may have changed.

He made the comments after a poll suggested that Nigel Farage of the UK Independence Party triumphed over Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, in a live debate over Europe.

Mr Farage has called for an immediate in/out referendum on EU membership. Mr Clegg’s Liberal Democrats say a referendum should only be held in the event of a major new EU treaty …. http://www.telegraph.co.uk
