Fast changing developments in Crimea and spreading into the Ukraine. Tomorrow Putin will address his parliment about the Ukraine. The euphoria in Crimea deflated quickly with the increasing presense of soldiers.

A day after Crimeans voted decisively to join Russia, euphoria there has given way to uncertainty, as armed men patrol the streets and residents wonder why most bank machines are empty. While some turnout data appeared dubious, there’s little doubt a majority of Crimeans believe joining Russia would mean a better life.

Do they really think joining Russia will be a better life or have they been cruely deceived?

Ukraine’s Donetsk braces for Russian military advance

Ukraine’s military is ramping up its effort to thwart any military advances by Russian troops on the heels of Crimea’s referendum. A recent Russian takeover of a natural gas plant near the Crimean border is only adding to tensions in Donetsk, where pro-Russia voices are growing louder.
