A National Geographic Society poll reported that 36 percent of Americans — about 80 million people — believe UFOs exist, only 17 percent do not, and the rest of the people are undecided (August 2012).

Some people–including UFO investigative organizations–are looking into suggestions that UFOs or extraterrestrials have abducted Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370, which disappeared last week without a trace.

The Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON, Executive Director Jan C. Harzan said, “We have not received any UFO reports from that region during the time of the flight or around the time period where it disappeared. Historically there are very few UFO cases where an airplane is involved and then it just disappears.”

The Huffington Post interviewed the Pennsylvania head of MUFON on Thursday.

“Between black boxes, transponders, radar, debris fields, explosion and missile strike signatures, evidence is always left behind,” MUFON’s Pennsylvania State Director John Ventre said. “The one explanation that some researchers are considering is that the plane and its passengers were abducted by extraterrestrials.”

He added: “The U.S. military monitors everything using sonar, radar and satellites. I’m certain our satellites observed what really happened, but that’s a truth that can’t be revealed.”

According to an editorial MUFON’s website, UFO activity should be “questioned” in the plane’s disappearance.

One of the rumors about aliens abducting the plane originated on satire webiste National Report, which says “there is only one possible answer. Aliens.” The website has a disclaimer, which reads: “National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news.”

However, U.S. investigators are saying that the plane likely flew on for hours after it reached its last confirmed location, according to the Wall Street Journal. The paper cited people familiar with the investigation, who said the plane went on for hundreds of miles.

“The investigators believe the plane flew for a total of up to five hours, according to these people, based on analysis of signals sent by the Boeing BA -1.99% 777′s satellite-communication link designed to automatically transmit the status of certain on board systems to the ground,” the Wall Street Journal writes.

After the plane disappeared, a massive international search has yielded few results.

No wreckage at all? And now the passengers mobile phones still being active and being able to be called? If it went in the ocean the mobile would stop working straight away and all calls would go straight to voice mail.. This story is getting stranger by the day…All that technology on the ground and on the sea including the latest submarines with state of the art sonar and listening tech and still no black box signal? If if didn’t crash or land somewhere else where did it go?
