Michigan’s Right To Life, anti-abortion organization admits that the law won’t reduce the number of abortions. So why have they been pushing the “Rape Insurance”?
Opponents of the law call it “a direct attack on women” and note that it could cost women tens of thousands of dollars for procedures that in some cases are even a medical necessity.
The law got its name, as it would require the rider even in cases of rape or incest. State Sen. Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) said last winter that she had been raped 20 years ago, and that she “can’t even begin to imagine now having to think about the same thing happening to my own daughters” in Michigan’s anti-abortion climate.
