Looks like the answer is in the story details that have been floating around for the last few days already.
7h 31 min into the flight was the last auto signal from the engines..Up to 8h of flight time available in the tanks..Signal sent every 30min.
Therefore, engines sent all the signals they had the time for..then the fuel runs out..it plunges into ocean from a low altitude where it was flying towards the end to allow the culprits safe bail out using parachutes. And, whatever their mission was accomplished. All the rest on board were dead for a while due to the high altitude maneuver early on, to allow no interference with the small group of culprits and the plan. Plane was on course to a rendezvous point in open ocean and a private motor yacht pick up as far as possibles to confuse the search and allow a few days of get away time. Plane was piloted manually b/c auto pilot use would probably leave a GPS trail. They stayed on until almost the end.
No claim of responsibility! So, the mission was quiet and about something on the plane involving a get away plan.
Look for black box signal where the fuel runs out at the end of southern corridor! Although, everything seems to be designed for it never to be found in the vast open ocean.
If this was the case, it involved a small group of obviously highly trained mercenaries and perhaps some corrupt Malaysian transportation official to get them on board.
