Real Madrid Jese Rodriguez, who will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee in a Champions League clash with Schalke 04, has decided to turn to renowned German orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ulrich Boenisch, the club said Wednesday.
Jese plans to fly to Augsburg, Germany, home of the Hessingpark-Clinic, where Boenisch works.
The 21-year-old forward, who has eight goals this season in 31 appearances for the Blancos, will be accompanied by club physicians Jesus Olmo and Francisco Morate, Real Madrid said.
Real Madrid beat Schalke 3-1 here Tuesday night in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash, wrapping up a 9-2 aggregate triumph over the German club to advance to the quarterfinals.
Yet the victory was almost overshadowed by the injury to Jese, who left the field on a stretcher in the 8th minute after Schalke defender Saed Kolasinac landed on the Madrid player’s knee.
A subsequent exam at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital revealed that Jese suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Boenisch, a specialist in ligament injuries, has previously operated on Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and German stars such as Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
