(Before It's News)

DEAR FRIENDS- A friend of mine was in deep pain today after recognizing that she has a recurring problem with co-dependency in her romantic relationships. While she knew that this awareness is the first step toward healing the pattern, she felt anguished and ashamed to be “such a flawed human being”. She cried about how admitting the truth of her problem made her unable to see her own beauty and rightness. Her “Eyes of Love” toward herself had gone blind and she felt utterly lost.

I told her what I am about to tell you. Every single one of us is struggling with attitudes and behaviors that are self-defeating. Some of our demons have diagnoses and labels attached to them such as co-dependency or alcoholism. Others are not so clearly defined but still mire us in unhappiness. Please remember that we ALL have our problems. Did you know that John Lennon and Mahatma Gahndi used to beat their wives? True story. But the beauty and goodness in them- in their core selves- is still obvious. Their dysfunctional behavior- like yours, like mine, like everyone's- was simply the result of pain that hadn't been healed yet.

When we end our denial and admit we have a problem it does NOT mean we are unworthy and flawed or that we should feel ashamed of ourselves. IN REALITY OUR SELF-DEFEATING PATTERNS- EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM- BEGAN AS SURVIVAL STRATEGIES IN RESPONSE TO OUR DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES, SOCIETIES, CULTURES AND RELIGIONS. So as you work to understand and transform your self-defeating conflicts, do so guided by this certain truth- that you are not to blame for their origin. Instead of self-blame and self-doubt, have complete self-compassion for the pain that created them. And with love keeping your eyes wide open, never lose sight of the total beauty and rightness of YOU!

A diamond that was dropped in the mud is still a diamond! It just needs to be tenderly cleaned for its radiant perfection to be revealed. Whatever your demons, whatever you are struggling with- every one of you is a diamond. Perfect. Flawless. Magnificent. Wash your Diamond Self with Unconditional Love for so its beautiful inner light can shine forth! LOTS OF LOVE- BRIAN
