Aero Precision has lately been selling all the parts to assemble AR-15 rifles after finally adding barrels to their catalog that included everything from stripped receivers to complete lowers and upper kits. Now the company is jumping into the AR-15 market with both feet: introducing the Aero Precision AR15 Blackhawk.

The Blackhawk is a carbine-length AR with a 16-inch M4-profile barrel.

The rifle is available with a standard hard-anodized matte black finish or with optional Cerakote finishes in burnt bronze, desert tan, olive drab, titanium and tungsten.

And for a limited time each Blackhawk will include a free X-Products 50-round drum magazine. These mags are at the high end and usually list for over $200. These will have a matching Cerakote finish to go with the rifles (except olive drab).

The Blackhawk is built on a set of Aero receivers, notably Aero’s COP — Continuous Optics Platform — semi-monolithic upper receiver. The COP has a fixed flattop receiver that runs from the charging handle all the way to the end of the handguard. A separate, modular lower handguard half is attached to the receiver extension.

This lets users mount optics as far forward as they want without having to use cantilever mounts or mounting sights to a railed handguard that runs the risk of losing zero.

The lower handguard assembly can be customized with or without rails to suit each user’s needs individually.

Aero has the upper features listed as having:

  • a 16-inch barrel, one-in-seven twist, 5.56 NATO chamber, 4150 chromalloy vanadium, six grooves
  • a low profile gas block, installed
  • a 8620 bolt carrier, carpenter 158 bolt, HPT and MPI tested
  • an A2 flash hider
  • a standard charging handle
  • a 7075-T6 forged aluminum receiver
  • and a matte black hard-coat anodized Mil 8625 Type 3 Class 2 finish.

And the lower features include:

  • a 7075-T6 forged aluminum receiver
  • a matte black hard-coat anodized Mil 8625 Type 3 Class 2 finish
  • the takedown pin detent hole is threaded for a 4-40 set screw
  • a Magpul MOE pistol grip
  • an Aero Precision billet trigger guard
  • and a Mil-spec buffer extension.

Aero has always delivered on the value side even with their premium equipment, but this is the price to beat on an AR-15 like this.

That includes the rifle, the magazine, a complete roll-up accessory kit with multiple sets of rails for different configurations, a Torx wrench for the rails and a barrel wrench should you ever want to change or replace the barrel.

What it does not include is any sights or optics. That they leave up to the end user. For more details and specifications head over to the Blackhawk product page.

For the custom builder, Aero is offering matched, stripped mil-spec receivers with the drum mag as a bundle for just $350, or $405 with the optional Cerakote finish.
